Swainsona formosa

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

It’s wildflower season and blossoms are out. You have to admire the indigenous wildflowers – very hardy. The new drain near the Visitors Centre is only blue metal and some Pilbara red dirt. But Sturt Peas (Swainsona Formosa) are flourishing. The image below shows the blue metal rocks that the plants are growing on.

Blast part 3

I find it interesting that the dust from a blast looks like a wave cascading over the benches.

Here’s the first in a series of a blast that occurred at Whaleback on the weekend.

Unusual view of Whaleback mine

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

After months of teasing about only having shot 3 images, Chris stole my best red stripe lens and took his camera to work. He’s getting quite arty for a self confessed boofhead as demonstrated by the image below. This is Mulla Mulla growing at one of the lookouts at Whaleback mine. Mulla Mulla usually looks much pinker than this, but it’s covered in dust of course!! (I did the post-processing by the way)

I was very surprised to stumble on this patch of rock while on the sunrise shoot yesterday.

Sunrise at Mt Newman

Friday, August 20th, 2010

Chris is giving me a hard time about shooting at Mt Newman so much. I had to try a sunrise shoot before I moved to a different location. Quite pleased with the results.
